The picture of creation in the book of Genesis shows
us a God of immense love. There in the garden of
Eden is all that mankind could wish for; as well as a
Creator who shares the delight of His creation with the
man and woman He has brought to life. God’s
greatest desire is that these special creatures should
learn to know Him and respond to His love for them
by choosing to love Him above everything else. A free
choice. We soon find what such freedom is capable of in the chapters that follow - and the door is shut in God’s face. However, there is a way - a promise - right there at the beginning in Genesis 3:15 - a promise borne out in Jesus’ gift of life on the cross.
Now the door can be opened again with a key. A key in the shape of a cross. We are so blessed that we have an opportunity to return to our God by way of the cross - a way that only Jesus knows.
This issue looks at some of the ordinary parts of life in order to see how we might use the days that we have been given to find again the paradise that we lost. Days that God wants to fill with glory and love. Every day is a gift. Every day is filled with choices. Every day God wants to lead us along the path of life and invites us to choose again.                Lead us, heavenly Father, lead us,
                         o’er the world’s tempestuous sea.
Father God, Lord of all creation; of all that is beautiful and good, draw our hearts to You.
Jesus, Lord and King of glory; love beyond measure, make our minds Your own.
Holy Spirit, wind and fire of perfect love; teacher, healer and witness, breathe Your life into me now.
Father, Son and Holy Spirit, One God supreme,
I come into Your presence in awe that you have shown me such amazing love.  May I serve You with praise in my heart always.     Amen

Praise God ... For work
Lord, I thank you that You have given us all different gifts and talents and the freedom to choose how to use them. Bless those who work on my behalf, growing food, making clothes, building, repairing and providing. May whatever tasks I am assigned in life, great or small, be done with such cheerfulness and good grace that others will praise You because of me. And may I serve You today in whatever work I do.
Praise God ... For leisure
Lord, the Bible tells us that You rested on the day creation was completed and gave us a day of rest to share the delight of all You made. Help us to take seriously our need for leisure and to use it wisely - remembering that what we choose affects the lives of others. And Lord, because rest is Your gift to us, help us to put You first always, so that we may know the very best that life can be, every single day.
Praise God ... For my family
Father God, You are a family God. Our Lord Jesus was part of a family and so are we. Whether we have many blood relatives or few, when we are adopted into Your family we have the very best Father and a whole kingdom of brothers and sisters made perfect by our Lord Jesus Christ. May we always live as Your child, supporting and encouraging our brothers and sisters and rejoicing in our family inheritance.
Praise God ... For meals
Lord, I find it hard to think about the many millions of people who do not have enough to eat because I know I cannot solve the world’s problems. Help me to understand that being grateful for what I have is the first step. Help me to remember to give you thanks every time I eat, and show me the way that I can help the rest of the world by wise choices in what I buy and eat, and in how I live. Thank you, dear Lord.
Praise God ... For chores
Thank you Lord for the daily routine of things that make life comfortable for me and for others. Help me to set an example of joy at being able to serve others and You in daily tasks. And whenever I am tempted to leave something, help me to remember that You are the guest that I serve in others, just as You came to serve me in Jesus, so that I can find delight in doing everything to get ready for You. Praise You Lord.
Praise God ... For all creation
Lord, so often the busyness of life means that I forget why I am here. In thinking of myself, I even forget you. I’m sorry Lord. Give me eyes to see You reflected in Your creation. Give me the love to love what You love. Give me ears to hear Your voice inviting me to work alongside You. Give me wisdom to know, and courage to do, those things for which you have created me and bring me at last to Yourself.
