Lord, sometimes the world seems such a dark and dangerous place. Sometimes it is just confusing. And yet Lord, there are moments when I glimpse Your glory; in the face of a child; on a beautiful day or in a starry sky and I thank you for those moments. But Lord Jesus, I long to know the real and eternal peace that you had.
I do not ask for a quiet life, but for a life lived in the assurance that You are with me, and I with You, always; a life of peace. Amen.
Contrary to many people’s idea of peace, it is
not about silence in our surroundings. Peace is
about something inside us; a quietness of heart
and mind when there could easily be turmoil,
fury or despair. When the Lord appeared to
Gideon (Judges 6) the first thing He says is
“Peace, do not be afraid.” When the risen Lord
appeared to His disciples His first words were
“Peace”. God’s peace is an assurance that He has everything under control - whatever it might feel like! All we need to do is trust Him. However, this is easier said than done. So often, unless we learn to suppress it, our conscience stirs us up and we become inwardly agitated. At such moments it can be easy to escape into a fantasy world of books or films to ease the turmoil - and for a short while our conscience is dulled, but it always returns. There is only one real answer - one real way of dealing with inner turmoil - to go to the one who can deal with it.
First, remember that God knows already. Second, go to Him - sit on His knee and tell Him how you feel. Thirdly, feel His peace and assurance flowing into you. Fourthly, go out in His name and bring His peace to everyone you meet. Praise Him!

Start here for daily prayers and follow the route for the day.
Read the notes on the back cover.
We start by keeping a minute or two of silence, inviting God to be in our thoughts and prayers
Spend a minute or two simply finding ways
to praise God because
He is our God; Father, Son & Holy Spirit.
Read your Bible (if you haven’t already).
At peace with God
Remember - God loves you. Much, much more than you could ever know. He wants you to share His life by being His child.
The privilege of belonging to God’s family also brings the responsibility of obedience - and to do that we need to spend time with Him. Jesus did. We need to learn how to live at peace. We can be at peace when we are walking with Him. He is faithful and He will do it. Praise Him!
At peace with the world
There are times, Lord, when peace in a world in which there is so much war, terrorism and disaster seems like an impossible dream. But then, You told us it would be so. And You told us our task was to bring Your peace wherever we could - by sharing all that you have given us. Lord, when I think how much You multiply our giving, I know that everything I do in your name helps to bring in Your Kingdom. Thankyou!
At peace with others
Lord, there are people in the world that I really don’t get on with; people that don’t like me; people who are jealous; people who live a life that I cannot agree with and people who don’t understand me. Lord, you knew people like that too and yet you remained calm when confronted by them. Lord, help me to see them as You do; people who need Your love; and so give me wisdom, courage and love in their presence.
At peace with our family
Lord, my family can be the most wonderful and yet the most frustrating people on earth! We think we know each other so well - and yet we don’t really. Lord, my character is really tested with my family - and I am sorry that I sometimes fail. Help me to love them, just as You do - all the time - and help me to speak only words of encouragement and love, even when I feel something else - and help me to do it today!
At peace with our friends
On Sunday we shared the Lord’s peace with each other at Church. It was good because we were with friends. Lord, thank you for friends - especially those who greet me with a warm smile and I hardly know them. And thank you that I can be a friend in all sorts of ways to others who hardly know me. Lord, open my eyes to see how I can be a better friend to those about me and so bring Your peace into their lives.
At peace with ourselves
Find a comfortable chair and imagine yourself as a child climbing on to God’s lap for a cuddle. You do not need to speak - simply give yourself to Him. Let Him put His arms around you. He loves you - completely. Feel His love. Let nothing else intrude for the moment. Listen. He will speak to you. “My child, I love you and I want you to walk with me. Are you ready? Let’s go. And remember we are in this together - always!”
