From the Vestry at St Mary’s

The month of June has seen St Mary’s open up to the community with two very successful activities. The open garden at the Vero residence was great success. The rain held off for the day, the garden was looking resplendent and the tea and cakes were scrumptious. The whole community of Atherstone supported this fundraiser for the building project and a very huge thank you to all who participated in making this a success.

The other occasion saw Atherstone waking up to the town centre being cordoned off and a hive of activity as we prepared to host the Aviva Women’s Cycle Tour. The months of planning paid off as the day was once again an overwhelming triumph for the town. St M was the hub for teas, coffee, bacon and sausage baps, toilet facilities and organisers.

The Atherstone Town Council have agreed with Mayor Ray Jarvis that the St Mary’s Building Project will be the official Mayors Charity for 2016/17. This show of confidence will assist in raising the matched funding that we need to qualify for the grant from Heritage Lottery Funding.

The Messy Church and Stay & Play groups continue to be well attended by the community. Another group that is growing is the Girls Friendly Society. Sharon and the leaders are doing a wonderful job in facilitating these young girls in life skills and values.

Looking forward to July we have a choral concert, community lunch and a host of day trips on offer so please look out for posters providing information or just ask someone from St M.

We continue to provide many activities for creativity and worship. We are coming to an end with the Alpha Course. This has seen 7 people complete the sessions and gain an insight into what faith in Christ is about.

Please visit our FB page and watch our various notice boards for activities at St Mary’s on the Square.

Last but not least remember it is more blessed to give than receive, seek out opportunities to be a blessing to others and do not grow weary in doing good as you seek out the welfare of your town.

Love and prayers from all at St Mary’s.
